Slough Town 1, Enfield Town 1

Peter Ojemen headed home a last gasp equaliser for Slough Town as the Rebels rescued a point at home to Enfield Town at Arbour Park this afternoon.

The Rebels looked set for their third defeat of the league season until the 97th minute when, throwing caution to the wind, they sent their keeper Adam Desbois forward for a 97th minute corner.

Desbois played his part in the leveller too, keeping the ball alive for Johnny Goddard to send a floated ball back into the danger zone and Ojemen was there to head the ball home.

Cue bedlam around Arbour Park as the Rebels rescued a point from a game they looked to be getting nothing from.

The hosts had fallen behind in the 16th minute through Lamar Reynolds strike for the visitors and although they saw plenty of the ball in decent positions, they weren’t able to make many inroads against a resilient Enfield defence.

In fact, bar few efforts from Wiktor Makowski that former Rebel Rhys Forster did well to parry away, they didn’t look like getting level before half-time.

In the 35th minute, Goddard played a nice ball through for Tarik Gidaree but his attempt to slip the ball beneath Forster was anticipated by the keeper who saved well.

The visitors nearly doubled their lead in the 52nd minute but for a Scott Davies goal line clearance, but it was clear as the two sides came off for half-time, the hosts had plenty of work to do to get back into the contest.

Makowski was an inch or two away from connecting with a great cross from substitute Jared Myers in the early stages of the second half, while the former Flackwell Heath striker couldn’t get his shot away after being well picked out by Davies in the 56th minute.

The Rebels managed to maintain that pressure, with Forster saving well from a deflection and Goddard and Dan Roth both seeing follow up shots blocked.

Slough continued to push and with Goddard pulling the strings they created another chance for Ruben Bartlett-Antwi, but the striker couldn’t pick out the near post with his shot.

Goddard curled another effort over in the 89th minute but, just when it looked like most of the 800-strong crowd would go home disappointed, Slough packed the box from a 97th minute corner, recycled the ball through Goddard and headed home their equaliser through summer signing Ojemen.

The Towners were devastated after a heroic defensive effort, but the Rebels had something to show for the energy they’d expended chasing the game.

The result leaves them in 16th place with six points ahead of Tuesday’s home game with Chippenham Town.
