The Cliveden Estate is gearing up for autumn with some new events targeted at humans and dogs alike.
Heritage Open Days
Firstly, England’s largest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days, is back between September 12 and 21.
As part of the festival, each year many National Trust places throw open their gates to give everyone free access on select days.
For Cliveden, this will be from Monday, September 15 to Friday, September 19.
Throughout the week, there will be first-come-first-served tours of the house, sculptures and garden, as well as daily talks at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm, plus outdoor pop-up history talks.
There will also be a heritage tree walk on Tuesday, September 16, at 10am and 2pm. Book by emailing clivedenwalks@nationaltrust.org.uk
Autumn adventures
The National Trust is also putting on various autumnal celebrations.
Exploring ‘Autumn Adventures’ at Cliveden, you can play autumn games, find autumn treasures and collect the colours of autumn.
A free ‘Autumn Adventures’ leaflet is available from the Information Centre.
Pooch passport
From September 1, visitors can pick up a Pooch Passport from Cliveden and other National Trust properties.
Stamps are collected from different places when visiting with a dog. When a passport is full with six stamps, there’s a special treat from the National Trust’s partners, Forthglade natural dog food. Each dog can have its own passport.
The Trust has identified four doggy profiles to help their owners choose the perfect National Trust place for their next visit:
The Pampered Pooch – Not one for muddy paws, they’re happiest soaking up the atmosphere. Cliveden’s Woodland lounge has a new indoor seating area for a cosy pit stop on a walk.
The Senior Stroller – They’re here to sniff the roses and enjoy the journey. At Cliveden, Senior Strollers are welcome to potter around the formal gardens.
The Free-Range Fido – They’re happiest with the wind in their fur and freedom under their paws. At Cliveden, Free-range Fidos can stretch their legs around the woodland and on riverside walks.
There are also plenty of off-lead walks on the commons at Maidenhead and Cookham.
