Heavy rain warning issued for Maidenhead, Windsor and Slough

Weather services have issued a rain warning for today (August 28) for Windsor and Maidenhead and Slough, stretching into tomorrow.

A 'moderate rain warning' is in place from 10pm tonight until 12pm on Friday.

Heavy showers, perhaps merging into longer spells of heavy rain at times, are likely to reach southwest England on Thursday night, before pushing quickly east to affect other parts of the southeast into Friday morning.

Not everywhere will see the heavy showers or rain, but where it happens, 10-20mm of rain 'in less than an hour' is possible. In plain English, that ranges from moderate to heavy rain to a very wet downpour.

Some flooding in wetter areas is possible.

What should I expect?

• Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
• Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
• Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

A yellow weather warning means 'medium likelihood and low impact'.

What should I do?

The Met Office says to check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
