Diwali events will bring colourful and high-energy entertainment to the area at the end of the month
The festival of lights marks the victory of light over darkness and is an important date in Hindu, Sikh and Jain calendars.
For Hindus, Diwali honours the Goddess Lakshmi and symbolises Lord Rama's return to his kingdom with his wife Sita after 14 years of exile.
Bandi Chhor Divas is a Sikh festival signifying the ‘day of liberation’ when Guru Hargobind was released from prison in 1619.
For Jains, Diwali represents when Lord Mahavir attained 'moksha' or was freed from the cycle of reincarnation.
This year, the religious festival falls on October 21, but the date changes annually and is typically marked with lit diyas (small oil lamps), rangoli artwork and the sharing of mithai (sweets).
