Dozens of people had to be evacuated from their flats in Maidenhead after a fire filled the building with smoke.
At about 9.15am this morning, firefighters from Maidenhead Fire Station were called out to Crescent Dale off Shoppenhangers Road after an extractor fan caught alight.
Smoke spread through the building through the vents and caused about 50 people to need to be temporarily evacuated.
Most have been able to go back to their homes, but there has been smoke damage and other damage associated with the fire.
One of the flats suffered water damage from where the extractor fan fire’s heat spread to the flat above and burst the water pipe, sending water ‘everywhere’.
Four fire engines and crews using four breathing apparatus, a hose reel and fire extinguishers to put out the blaze, then vented the area to air out the smoke.
They were on the scene for about two hours.
Though the building was ‘very smoky’, residents got out safely with the help of the fire crews. No one was injured from the smoke or fire, nor needed any medical treatment.
