A sex offender from Windsor has been jailed after he assaulted a woman in a car park late at night.
Omar Mehmoul, 36, of Gwynne Close, was sentenced to four years in prison at Reading Crown Court on October 30.
Mehmoul committed the crime after his victim had left a nightclub in Windsor at around 3am on April 21, 2024.
Thames Valley Police's investigating officer detective constable William Holbrook praised the woman's bravery and said Mehmoul’s assault had been ‘deplorable’.
On the night of the assault, the woman had become separated from her friends as they were walking through an alleyway and away from the nightclub.
She walked to a nearby car park where she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her. That man was later identified as Mehmoul.
He fled the scene after his victim managed to break free, but he was tracked down by police and arrested on the same day as the attack. He was charged on 17 July 2024.
He was found guilty on a charge of sexual assault of a female aged over 13 by penetration, by a jury at Reading Crown Court on July 23.
DC Holbrook said: “I want to commend the victim for her bravery in reporting this crime and engaging with Thames Valley Police throughout what has been an emotionally challenging process.
“The actions of Mehmoul were deplorable. He knowingly committed an offence, demonstrating a deceitful intent.
“We are committed to supporting victims every step of the way and doing everything we can to secure justice.
““This case highlights our determination to hold offenders accountable and to protect women and girls from harm.
“By removing perpetrators from our communities, we help prevent further offences and reinforce our commitment to public safety.”
Mehmoul was acquitted of a charge of rape.
