Slough Town will take on National League North side Macclesfield Town at Arbour Park for a place in the third round of the FA Cup over the weekend of Saturday, December 6.

The Rebels reward for Saturday’s impressive 2-1 home win over National League Altrincham is another home draw against a team at the same level as them, with the carrot of getting through to the third round and potentially playing one of the competition’s big guns at stake for the winners.

Clubs from the Premier League and Championship join the competition in the third-round stage.

The second-round draw took place on Tuesday evening, ahead of the final tie of the first round between Tamworth and Leyton Orient which the O’s won 1-0. It was screened live on TNT Sports and Discovery+.

Ties will take place across the weekend of Saturday, December 6. Further information on the day and time will be released in due course.

Reflecting on the draw, player manager Scott Davies said: “Tough game against a big club but everything to play for. Both sides will be looking at it thinking that they’ll never have a better chance of progressing into round three having avoided an EFL team. Should be an absolute cracker at a sold-out Arbour Park.”

Slough will be hoping to replicate their excellent home display against Altrincham on Saturday, where they deservedly went two goals to the good thanks to first half strikes from Ansu Janneh and Wiktor Makowski.

Altrincham managed to cut the deficit through James Gales’ 65th minute finish, moments after he’d been brought onto the field as a second half substitute. But the National League side - now managed by interim boss Neil Gibson - couldn’t build on that momentum and Slough’s hopes of progression were boosted when Alty defender Elliott Osborne was sent off after catching Makowski with his elbow.

Despite having a man advantage the Rebels still had to negotiate nine minutes of stoppage time against their increasingly desperate visitors, but this they managed with relatively few scares if any, thanks to the excellent defensive work of player manager Scott Davies, his centre half partner Reiss Greenidge and the rest of the team.

Their rivals in the next round, Macclesfield, sit 11th in the National League North after making a mixed start to their league campaign.

However, they’ve found form of late, winning their last five matches in all competitions, including Saturday’s convincing 6-3 home win over AFC Totton, who sit third in Slough’s division at present.

The Rebels will have to watch Danny Elliott, who scored a first half hat-trick in that match, while goals from Paul Dawson (46'), Rollin Menayese (64') and Lewis Fensome (79') eventually confirmed a comfortable cup win for Macclesfield, who had been pegged back to 3-3 at half-time.

Slough will pocket £79.500 if they manage to overcome Macclesfield and reach the third round. They earned £47,750 for Saturday’s win over Altrincham. The losers in the second round will also earn £21,200 from the FA’s prize fund.
