Another successful outdoor season has drawn to a close at Maidenhead Town Bowls Club, and according to Men’s Captain Tim Eales, the club is in excellent health, both on and off the green.
Speaking at the popular Captains and President’s Day on Sunday, Eales praised the Oaken Grove-based club’s growing membership and strong community spirit.
While many clubs across Berkshire are grappling with dwindling numbers and rising costs, Maidenhead Town continues to thrive, thanks to its dedicated volunteers and enthusiastic members.
The Captains and President’s Day brought together players of all levels in a celebration of the season, as well as a reminder that the summer bowls season is nearing its end.
Looking ahead, Eales hinted at exciting times to come, with preparations already underway for the 2026 season.
Tim said: “Everyone works together to make this club what it is and everyone should be proud of what they achieve each season. We are already looking ahead to the 2026 season and bowls success.
“We have elections coming up for people to run things with hands-on skills poised, with tools at the ready, to keep the club functioning well! It’s not just about playing bowls but about having a well-run club we can be proud of.”
The celebration also shone a light on the achievements of the club’s female members.
Ladies Captain Kim Eales shared highlights from a standout season, including her own impressive run alongside fellow club stalwart Jan Mayne to the Pairs County Final at the Bowls England National Championships in Leamington Spa.
Though they narrowly missed out on victory, it was a performance to be proud of.
“It can take just one bowl to change a game’s direction,” she said. “Our Yorkshire opposition managed to do that on more than one occasion. That’s bowls for you.”
The day wrapped up with Kim leading a light-hearted awards ceremony, recognising the hard work and hidden talents of various club members. The laughter, cheers and applause were proof that this is a club that’s in good health.
