Desborough’s County Triples Winners
--
Desborough Bowls Club
Desborough’s triple of Bob Forster, Paul Worthy and Kevin Scrace were always in control of their Men's County Final against Tilehurst and to such an extent that they didn't have to play the final end - winning by 10 shots to become champions.
Desborough's men's double fours squad of Lee Chamberlain, Andrew Essex, Kevin Scrace, Mark Harris, Keith Roper, Mark Peachey, Mark Essex and Bob Forster also took on Tilehurst in their county final and it was a nail-biting affair.
Going into the final end, the teams couldn't be separated, however, a fantastic shot from Keith Roper earned Desborough a one-shot victory and the title of county champions.
In the second leg of the Hot Dog Trophy against Maidenhead Town, Desborough’s men won by two shots, giving them a 91-shot advantage on aggregate to lift the trophy.
Desborough’s Ladies completed the double when they won the inaugural Cream Teas Trophy.

Maidenhead Town Bowls Club
Maidenhead Town Bowls Club heralded the gradual closure of the outdoor season with a weather-friendly weekend of competition finals, writes Geoff Motley.
'Last Saturday and Sunday, eager spectators enjoyed some entertaining and impressive bowls playing on a green that drew the best out of competitors. The worthy winners in each category received their trophies and medals from captains Kim and Tim Eales at a lively clubhouse presentation.
The occasion included bowlers both new to the game and experienced bowlers, newcomers to the area who had discovered the Oaken Grove club. Phil Blackman and Kay Dilkes received enthusiastic applause for their coordination and organisation of the club’s season of competitions.
Phil thanked all who played their part, from players themselves, both winners and runners-up, to club stalwarts dedicated to green maintenance, catering and the upkeep of the Oaken Grove premises.
Indeed, Maidenhead Town often loans its facilities to out of county clubs who choose the Oaken Grove location as a worthwhile midway location. Kay Dilkes also thanked finals competition entrants for their keen participation and encouraged all members to experience competitive bowls and what it’s like to win.
Tony Stuart, from the Management Committee, similarly endorsed Kay’s comments, recommending entering competitions not only to sharpen one’s game but to enjoy club membership to the full.
An increase in membership throughout the season has demonstrated the attraction of the club and its reputation. Being part of a successful bowls club is not just about the game of bowls.'
